There is a plethora of types of food in Atlanta, you can find pretty much any type of cultural food if you know where to look. Sidewalk radio has an episode where they visit the Buford Highway Farmers Market and the market has Mexican, Indonesian, Chinese and many more types of food showing great cultural variety.

With some of the worlds top universities and colleges inside Atlanta students and scholars come from all accross the world to study or teach. According to the Global Leadership webpage on the Georgia Tech website, International students and scholars at Georgia Tech are from more than 110 countries across the globe.

Peachtree:

There are 15 streets named Peachtree in Atlanta. This is because these streets are named after the Peachtree Creek that flows through DeKalb and Fulton counties. This creek is famous for the Civil War battle that occured around the creek that took place on July 20, 1864. The battle resulted in Confederate forces failing to stop Union forces from crossing the creek and the Union forces crossed the creek and continued towards Atlanta.

Criminal History in ATL

When people think of Atlanta, the first thing that usually comes to mind is that it is a big city that also offers southern comfort. This can be seen in some parts and history of Atlanta; however, this perception may be skewed when Atlanta’s criminal history comes into play. Generally, Atlanta is seen as a relatively safe place compared to other big cities, but this is partly because the crime that takes place in the city is not as publicized as it is in other large cities. One of the largest crime incidents of the city was the Atlanta child murders of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Not many people in Atlanta even know about the Atlanta child murders of the late 1970s and early 1980s, much less America as a whole. In 1979, many young, African American children started to go missing with some of their bodies showing up weeks later. This unfortunate incident proceeded for three years until the crime investigators in Atlanta believed they found the culprit. After these three years, a total of twenty-nine children and young adults were kidnapped and found dead. Law enforcement found Wayne Williams, an African American adult, guilty of at least twenty of the murders.

ATL Art Scene

Art in Atlanta refuses to stick to conformity. Free art litters the streets, placed in creative spots for passersby to find, leaving splashes of color in a normally monochrome city. Some artists use spray paint and create graffiti and others leave pieces of art such as wood carvings, miniature paintings, stickers, and countless other mediums. Just by traveling through the city there almost is not anywhere you can go where you will not see some form of art. This breaks up the grayscale colors of Atlanta, giving something more interesting for passersby to look at. This art can be broken down into two categories to make it easier to understand, free art and street art.

Free Art

Free art can be whatever its maker wants it to be, there are no rigid rules for what a free art piece can be. As long the art is left somewhere for someone to find, the art is free art. Some popular free artists in Atlanta are Sad Stove, Blockhead and Athulhu. They are called free artists because they create art and leave it around Atlanta, free for whoever finds the art to take it. Open space is the canvas for these artists who leave their art wherever there is room for it. These artists create their art without expecting anything in return, thus the name free art being an apt description for such artists. Athulhu describes free art as rewarding people who pay attention and says the art reconnects people with their environment. Artists post hints of where their art is on social media platforms and let curious viewers search for and claim the art as their own.

Street Art

Street art or graffiti is all over Atlanta. Some of it is just simple tagging where the creator writes their name or pseudonym but in other cases the creator makes some beautiful art. Some graffiti artists even create murals like in Ponce City Market the skate park is covered in large pieces of graffiti where the artists constantly are painting over other pieces resulting in a giant, constantly growing mural.

Silicon Valley of the South

Infrastructure:
1. The most important part of becoming the next Silicon Valley is to make companies prefer Atlanta. Infrastructure is one of the most important aspects that companies should consider as better infrastructure means a higher chance of faster development with less investment for output. Atlanta already has a good infrastructure that can attract companies
Transportation
1. Transportation has an important role in developing the industry. An easily accessible and reliable transportation system means efficient delivery and access to other regions. There are major transportation companies that have headquarters in Atlanta, and they can help the companies to spread out their business more quickly.
Industry
1. Both science(industry) and arts are the major factors that decide the overall value of the city, especially in a highly developed country. Atlanta has developed their own artistic culture and IT industry. This means Atlanta will be an attractive option for the huge trending companies as they can expand their business more easily here.
Georgia Tech
1. The existence of the Georgia Institute of Technology means a lot to Atlanta as a post-silicon valley. Near Silicon Valley, top colleges like Stanford and UC Berkeley, which are famous in STEM fields, provides tons of talented students that companies need. Georgia Tech has a great enough education system and reputation in STEM fields.

Infrastructure

Hartsfield Jackson International Airport: known as the busiest airport in the world. As Atlanta needs to get huge companies to be like a Silicon Valley, a big airport means a lot. Most huge companies have their business around the world, and airplane is the main method that links the world. And this airport is also known as #1 for access to global markets. This airport can also be used for advertisement, which is one of the most important businesses for companies.
Public Transit: The Atlanta public transportation system was ranked as #15 in the United States. Marta, which stands for Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, has linked the area called "Metro Area Atlanta." Most of the big companies and infrastructures of Atlanta is concentrated in this area, so new companies will be able to access other parts of Atlanta more easily. Moreover, Marta can provide proper transportation method to those employees who do not have a car. This will help the companies to settle down and stabilize their system more quickly.

Transportation:

Delta Air: Delta Airlines has ranked as the #1 airline company in the United States by Wall Street Journal. Nowadays, especially the days after the COVID-19 breakout, the transportation system using airlines has developed a lot, and this is known as the fastest delivery system so far. The existence of Delta Airlines will provide companies with efficient transportation systems and faster delivery of their products.
UPS: UPS has ranked as the #1 delivery company in the United States by TTNEWS. After the COVID-19 breakout, the delivery system was massively improved as face to face market was depressed. With help of UPS, companies will be able to get the products/materials they need more effectively and even deliver their products more easily. So the existence of UPS will increase the value of Atlanta as a second Silicon Valley.

Industry:

Art: Media is a great platform for companies to advertise themselves and build their distinctive characteristics. For that business, social media and modern arts take a big part in it. Atlanta is getting spotlighted as a center of modern art, and there are lots of modern art museums that can bolster the art culture in Atlanta.
IT: IT industry is one of the most developing industries in Atlanta. Headquarters of NCR and Cox Internet are already located in Midtown Atlanta, and those companies like Google and Microsoft have their buildings. Google even announced that they will make a massive expansion of its business in Atlanta. As the price of land in Silicon Valley gets higher and more IT companies move to Atlanta for a lower price and good resources, many IT companies might move to Atlanta, following the trend.

Georgia Tech:

Possibility: According to US News, the Georgia Tech Computer Science program ranked #5 in the United States, while Biomedical Engineering ranked #3 in the country. US News also announce that Information Security Analyst is the best job in the US while they decided that Nurse Practitioner is the second-best job in the US. This shows that Georgia Tech can provide enough number of useful human resources to trending companies.
Preference: Wall Street Journal included Georgia Tech in the Top 25 Recruiters Picks along with UC Berkeley. This means that big companies already have a high interest in students who graduated from Georgia Tech. Thus, Atlanta can become quite interesting place to those companies.

The CDC: Zombie Apocalypse

Atlanta, home to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), plays a large role in disease research and awareness. As the country has seen in the year 2020 up until today in 2022, the government has been abiding by the recommendations and mandates that the CDC has provided. The CDC has even released the comic “Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic” which tells a partly satirical story of a zombie pandemic occurring in Atlanta and follows a family that navigates the unfortunate situation. The story that they published provides a story while also including some key safety details that the CDC wants its audience to pay attention to. At the end of the story, they provide information on an All-Hazards Emergency Kit that lists all of the things that people should keep in their homes in case something terrible actually happens.

The Walking Dead:

The Walking Dead, filmed in Atlanta, is a television series that follows the lives and adventures of people trying to navigate life in the midst of a zombie apocalypse that originated in Atlanta. In the show, viewers will see familiar buildings and landmarks that are located in the city. The show did a lot of filming in the city and also in Peachtree City, Ga. The opening scene of the first episode shows a deserted, gloomy Atlanta with cars piled up on the interstate heading out of the city. This shows what the city of Atlanta would look like if something like this would actually happen.
